Short answer
Upload one PDF, let DocToTable detect its table and columns, review the preview, and download Excel or CSV. Native PDFs usually provide cleaner text; scanned PDFs first need OCR.

Step 1: Identify the PDF type
Try selecting a word. Selectable text means the PDF is native. If the whole page behaves like an image, it is scanned. For scan-quality diagnosis and OCR fundamentals, use the OCR table extraction guide.
Step 2: Upload one PDF
Choose the report, statement, invoice, or research paper that contains the table. The upload limit is 10 MiB and 500 pages; one conversion request processes at most 30 pages.
Without an account, each browser has three finite previews of the first two pages, with no daily reset. Eligible accounts may receive 10 one-time page credits; each newly processed page uses one credit.
Step 3: Review the detected table
DocToTable detects columns automatically and displays the result before download. Check:
- whether the first data row is a header;
- whether dates, amounts, and identifiers stay in the correct columns;
- whether page numbers or repeated headers became table rows; and
- whether totals match the PDF.
The web interface detects columns automatically rather than offering controls for choosing them. Make document-specific restructuring in Excel or another spreadsheet tool after export.
Step 4: Choose Excel or CSV
Choose XLSX when you want a spreadsheet file for review and formatting. Choose CSV for imports, scripts, or systems that expect plain tabular data. Both formats contain the detected table; neither replaces validation against the source.
Step 5: Validate the export
Compare row counts and totals, spot-check cells from different pages, and confirm number and date formats. For diagnostic cleanup across native and scanned files, see how to improve PDF-to-Excel accuracy.
When the PDF is scanned
Use the scanned table conversion page for the action-focused checklist and converter path. A readable, straight, high-contrast scan gives OCR a better source than a blurred photo or compressed screenshot.
When the table spans pages
Verify that column order remains consistent, then remove repeated page headers or footers from the exported spreadsheet. Process only the pages needed when a document exceeds the per-request cap.
