Why convert schedules and timetables to Excel?
Schedules are published as PDFs: school and university timetables, hospital and retail shift rosters, train and bus timetables, sports fixture lists, conference programmes, project plans. Working with them means sorting by date, filtering one person's shifts, counting hours, checking for clashes, or loading events into a calendar. None of that works on a PDF.
DocToTable extracts the table directly. Each date, time, name, room or location goes into its own column.
How it works
- Upload the schedule with the converter above, by drag and drop or file picker. No account needed.
- The table is detected. Column boundaries are recognised from the document, not from a template. Scanned schedules go through OCR.
- Preview and download. Check the rows in the browser, then export as Excel (XLSX) or CSV.
The first 2 pages in each of 3 finite browser previews convert free. Eligible accounts may receive 10 one-time page credits. Page packs and plans cover long schedules; see pricing.
Common schedule tasks
| Task | What the spreadsheet gives you |
|---|---|
| Hours per person | Shift start and end times to subtract and sum |
| Personal timetable | Filter a class or room timetable down to one person |
| Clash check | Sort by date and time to find overlapping slots |
| Calendar import | Date, time and title columns as CSV for the calendar importer |
| Fixture tracking | Match dates, opponents and venues as rows to update with results |
Tips for the best results
- Grid timetables: days across and times down convert as a grid. Use Power Query's Unpivot in Excel if you want one row per event.
- Merged cells: rosters that span one shift across several days use merged cells. The preview shows how they came out; fill blanks down in Excel if needed.
- Times: check a few times in the preview, especially 0 and 8 or 1 and 7 on scans.
- Dates without a year: many schedules print only day and month. Add the year in Excel before sorting.
- Import: export CSV when the calendar or scheduling importer expects plain text.
