Employee List & Payroll PDF to Excel

Upload a staff list, payroll register or attendance report in PDF and get an editable spreadsheet: employee ID, name, department, date and amount in their own columns. Free, no signup, works with scanned lists.

Why convert employee lists and payroll reports to Excel?

HR systems, payroll providers and government portals export staff lists and payroll registers as PDFs. The next step almost always needs a spreadsheet: reconciling the payroll register against the bank transfer file, checking headcount by department, preparing an audit sample, loading a staff list into a new system, or turning an attendance sheet into hours per person. Retyping names and amounts is slow, and a transposed digit in a salary column is a problem you find late.

DocToTable extracts the table directly. Each employee ID, name, department, date and amount goes into its own column.

How it works

  1. Upload the PDF with the converter above, by drag and drop or file picker. No account needed.
  2. The table is detected. Column boundaries are recognised from the document, not from a template. Scanned lists go through OCR.
  3. Preview and download. Check the rows in the browser, then export as Excel (XLSX) or CSV.

The first 2 pages in each of 3 finite browser previews convert free. Eligible accounts may receive 10 one-time page credits. Page packs and plans cover long registers; see pricing.

Common HR and payroll tasks

TaskWhat the spreadsheet gives you
Payroll reconciliationNet pay per employee next to the bank file
Headcount reportingStaff per department, location or grade with a pivot table
System migrationEmployee master data as CSV for the new HR system
Audit samplingA sortable register to pick and trace sample entries
Attendance totalsDays or hours per person from a monthly sheet

Tips for the best results

  • Wide registers: payroll tables often have 15 or more columns. Confirm in the preview that every column has a header and that amounts did not shift one column over.
  • Personal data: check your organisation's rules before uploading, and delete downloaded files you no longer need.
  • Scanned sheets: scan at 300 DPI or higher. Signatures and handwriting are not reliably converted.
  • Totals check: SUM the net pay column and compare it with the register total.
  • Names in one cell: if first and last names share a column, split them in Excel with Text to Columns.
